Messed Up! #4 with Kate Bowers
Hello All!
Please join us for the fourth session of the “Messed Up!” series!
For the uninitiated, the series is a live seminar series in a talk show format where our hosts Somaya Ali and Enrico Mariconti engage with fledging and established academics, and current students to discuss mistakes, failures and the less glorious aspects of academia that don’t necessarily make it into research papers. That’s right, we’re interested in failure.
Our guest will be Kate Bowers, the director of JDI and UCL Department of Security and Crime Science. Kate and our hosts will be discussing her experience and failures with presentations. Specifically, about the anxiety of talking about our research, the importance of striking a balance being complex yet succinct and how we can improve our presentations skills.
If you have any questions about painful presentations that you would like to ask Kate, please reply to this email to send them in or enter them in to Padlet via the link here:

The session will be hosted on Zoom on the 24th of February 2021 at 1100 – 1200 GMT.
Our aim is to encourage discussion and crosstalk between all members within the research environment at JDI and UCL Department of Security and Crime Science, and ultimately remind everyone that failures can be turned into successes.
If you would like to be the next guest on our ‘Messed Up!’ Series to share your experience and advice, please contact Martin or Juliana.
Best,
Martin
